Spring/Summer 2009 - Women

Botanic prints, Rose covered dresses, voluminous shapes, botanic prints and very big shoes will dominate the fashion scene this summer. Key features include:

The LWD
In all guises from long, short, fitted, darted. flowing, frilled and laced- the Little White Dress is big this season.  Clean, simple and cool for warm days and evenings.  A classic summer piece, however care needs to be taken when wearing white as it reflects light and will create the illusion of a bigger bodyshape.

Rosettes and Roses
The bigger the better is the curent love affair with roses and floral printsFabrics have been twisted, pleated, folded and gathered to form flowers from delicate roses to striking fuchsias to celebrate romance and femininity.

Blue and Yellow
This trend is dictated by colour and not styling.  Blue is this season's prevalent colour and covers every shade imaginable from the rich and vibrant shades of cobalt through to pale pastels and baby blues.  Yellow os also key in soft, buttery shades and commonly in dresses

Botanic
The plant theme is dominant this seaason and not just with roses and rosettes.  Sleeves and hems have been constructed to replicate petals and leaves and botanic prints are used on everything from the tunic to the cocktail dress.

Monochrome
Black and white worn together continues to be popular and is great for creating impact. Whether bold and graphic or soft and dainty the look always works well and can be further enhanced with some key statement black and white accessories.

Soft loose trousers
It won't be long before we wave goodbye to the skinny trouser that was a feature of last season.  Now trousers are floppy and flappy particularly in the crotch.  Not a polished look but practical and comfortable and available in luxurious fabrics including cashmere and silk jersey.

Puff and volume
Its all about volume with the focus on big.  This is a very exaggerated look with a 'Marie Antoinette' feel.  Styles include, trapeze styling, circle coats, rounded shoulders, hourglass dresses and 1960's simple shift dresses.  The puff ball effect and layering exaggerate hips and give a thatrical fell to this look.  Not at all wearable but great for creating a stir and maximum iompact when practicality does not matter.

Metallic Magic
Following on from previous seasons the shiny, metallic finish to fabrics is still in flavour, adding a touch of glamour and excitement to day wear.  This season the finish is more muted with colours like pewter, copper and metal-toned golds.

The big Wedge
Big, solid, sturdy and clumpy is the key look in shoes and boots this season. Platforms and wedges prevail with big oversized straps and detailing.  Metalics finishes have been ued to create a space aged glam rock feel.
